San Antonio’s brick oven obsession is real, and I’ve got the char marks to prove it. From Boombox’s neon-lit 80s time warp to Sorrento’s blackened salmon that has no business being that juicy, this city’s fire-kissed pies run a gloriously weird spectrum.

I chased the perfect crust across river views, hotel deliveries, and one allegedly haunted happy hour. The sauce at Il Forno alone rewired my brain.

Grab a fork, check your receipt, and read on.

Brick oven crust perfection
House-made mozzarella magic
Calabrese hummus worth returning for
Best sauce I've ever had
Crispy yet soft dough texture

Il Forno treats dough like a sacred text. The crust arrives crispy yet soft, a contradiction that somehow makes perfect sense. House-made mozzarella pulls like a dream. And the sauce? Best I've ever had, and I've chased this city's pies for weeks. The Calabrese hummus almost stole the show. Almost. I sat there, fork in hand, questioning every pizza I'd eaten before. This is brick oven sorcery. Bring friends. Or don't. More for you.

Ten out of ten hole-in-wall

Texas warehouse pizzas shouldn't work. It's a hole-in-the-wall with zero pretense and endless charm. The owner suggested a soda pairing. He was right. Four pizzas vanished between two of us. Zero regrets. The chicken coop pizza is perfection, whatever that chicken did to deserve such honor. Fresh ingredients, obvious love. Every bite tasted like someone cared deeply. Ten out of ten. I'd drive through a hurricane for another slice.

No complaints. Just crumbs and a satisfied grin.
